That's why ciphering was later upgraded by mathematicians in order to make it even almost impossible to be decrypted by anyone, whether by normal people or smart mathematicians. Furthermore, it's not always necessary to have an academic degree in the field to succeed, but individuals with degrees typically have better chances. Ultimately, like any profession, the market rewards hard work and experience, regardless of formal education.
